Preston Upset Fulham In Efl Cup Record Shootout

Preston upset Fulham in EFL-Cup record shootout

Preston North End overcame Premier League opposition for a second time in this season's Carabao Cup by beating Fulham in a record-breaking penalty shootout at Deepdale

The Lilywhites triumphed 16-15 on spot-kicks after a goalless draw, with Ched Evans scoring the winning penalty after 27 successful attempts.

Fulham, who knocked out Championship rivals Birmingham City in the second round, started the match brightly and dominated the first half but could not find a way through a resolute Preston defence.

Preston grew into the game after the break and had chances to win it in normal time, with substitute Emil Riis Jakobsen and skipper Alan Browne both going close.

The match went to penalties and Fulham missed their first two spot-kicks, through Tom Cairney and Harry Wilson. Preston missed their first, taken by Brad Potts, but converted their next 14 before Evans sealed the win.

Preston will now face Liverpool in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup at Deepdale on 27 October.
