Iowa Lt. Gov. Adam Gregg Resigns to Spend More Time with Family, Pursue New Career

Iowa Lieutenant Governor Adam Gregg has announced his resignation.

Governor Kim Reynolds made the announcement during a press conference on Tuesday, July 12. She said that Gregg will be leaving his post on July 29 to "pursue a career opportunity" and spend more time with his family.

Gregg has served as lieutenant governor since 2019.

He was elected alongside Reynolds in 2018. Prior to his election, Gregg served in the Iowa Senate from 2011 to 2019.

Reynolds praised Gregg for his service to the state, saying that he has been a "valuable asset" to her administration.

"Adam has been a great partner and friend," Reynolds said. "He has always put the people of Iowa first, and I am grateful for his service."

Gregg said that he was "honored" to have served as lieutenant governor and that he is "excited to see what the future holds."

"I am grateful to Governor Reynolds for the opportunity to serve the people of Iowa," Gregg said. "I am also grateful to my family for their support."

Reynolds said that she will appoint a replacement for Gregg in the coming weeks.

Gregg's resignation comes at a time when Reynolds is facing a number of challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic and the recent derecho storm.

It is unclear who Reynolds will appoint to replace Gregg.
