Boston Celtics Acquire Derrick White from San Antonio Spurs

Deal Includes Josh Richardson, Romeo Langford, and 2022 First-Round Pick

In a major trade Deadline move, the Boston Celtics have acquired guard Derrick White from the San Antonio Spurs. The Celtics sent guards Josh Richardson and Romeo Langford, along with a top-four-protected 2022 first-round pick to the Spurs in exchange for White.

White, a former first-round pick by the Spurs in 2017, is a versatile guard who can play both point guard and shooting guard. He averaged 14.4 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game for the Spurs this season.

The Celtics have been looking for a point guard to pair with Jaylen Brown and Jason Tatum, and White fits the bill. He is a good defender and has a knack for making plays for others.

The Spurs, meanwhile, are rebuilding after trading Dejounte Murray to the Atlanta Hawks earlier this offseason. Langford is a former first-round pick who has struggled to find his footing in the NBA, while Richardson is a veteran wing who can provide some scoring and defense.

The trade is a win-win for both teams. The Celtics get a much-needed point guard, while the Spurs get some young assets to help them in their rebuilding process.
